At The Blue Tree Clinic, our helpful and caring private psychiatrists / doctors aim to make your prescription process seamless and secure.
We have a strict 1 month medication prescribing policy for your safety and clinical governance unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Please note that our administrative team will be your main point of contact regarding any requirements for appointments with a doctor in relation to your medication.
We kindly ask that all communication remains respectful—our clinic operates a zero-tolerance policy toward abusive or aggressive messages regarding your prescriptions. Should such behaviour occur, we reserve the right to discharge you back to the care of your GP.
Here’s how our prescribing works:
1. Digital Prescription Service
We provide a fully paperless, digital prescription service for all private prescriptions.
For confidentiality and security, we are unable to post prescriptions to individuals or pharmacies. Instead, we collaborate exclusively with Knightsbridge Pharmacy on Brompton Road in London, ensuring high-quality service and timely delivery.
- Free Delivery: Medications can be mailed directly to you at no extra cost.
- Courier Option: For same-day delivery, a courier service is available, but it may incur additional charges.
- No Commission: We do not receive any commission from the pharmacy; we prioritise excellent service and patient care.
2. Controlled Drug (CD) Prescriptions.
Medications such as benzodiazepines, (diazepam, clonazepam, xanax for example) and Z-drugs (Zolpidem and Zopilcone) require an appointment. These medications will be limited to very small supplies by our doctors as per NICE guidelines and regulatory best practice unless there are circumstances where the Dr agrees to issue more for one off special circumstances.
- For Schedule 2, 3, or 4 controlled drugs, such as ADHD medications, physical prescriptions need to be hand-delivered to Knightsbridge Pharmacy.
- Prescriptions legally cover only one month of medication, following Department of Health guidelines on prescribing controlled drugs.
3. Fees and Policies
- Outside Appointment Requests: A £100 fee applies for prescriptions issued outside of appointments. This policy is outlined in your booking email and terms and conditions. This is for controlled and uncontrolled medication.
- Medication Costs: The cost of medication is paid directly to the pharmacy and is not included in our prescription fees.
4. Shared Care Agreements (SCA)
A Shared Care Agreement (SCA) allows our specialists and NHS GP’s to collaborate on your care for ADHD medications. However:
- GPs will want you stable on medication for at least 12 weeks.
- You may wish to consider getting confirmation from your NHS GP agreeing to an SCA before proceeding with an ADHD assessment if you are concerned about this.
- If an SCA isn’t possible, you’ll need to self-fund your medication and follow-up reviews ongoing.
- If you need a change to your SCA or medication between 6 month reviews, you will need an appointment with your medical Doctor regarding any changes in medication required.
- SCAs are not automatic, you need to request them and you would need an SCA meeting with your Dr to go through what is being sent to the GP – not all patient’s want or wish to be on a SCA which we understand.
5. Repeat Prescriptions
- Prescriptions issued during a consultation last until your next follow-up appointment (maximum one month).
- A repeat prescription request is not a substitute for a consultation and is up to the Doctor’s discretion. These can not be aforementioned medications such as benzodiazepines, controlled drugs or Z -drugs (sleeping tablets) – this will require an appointment with a Doctor. the NHS will not prescribe these medications at all due to the risk of dependency. And only a specialist should be prescribing these after a consultation online or face to face.
