Dr Afrooz Kosari – Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr Afrooz Kosari is an experienced Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who completed her medical training at University College London and her higher specialist psychiatric training in London. She has worked within the NHS since 2008 and has held substantive NHS Consultant posts for several years. She is currently the Clinical Lead for a prestigious NHS London CAMHS service, alongside her private clinical work.

Dr Kosari is known for her thoughtful, holistic, and evidence‑based approach. She places strong emphasis on understanding the child or young person within their developmental, family, and educational context and works collaboratively with parents, schools, and other professionals. Her assessments are thorough and clearly explained, with practical recommendations tailored to the individual’s needs.

She has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD, autism, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, emerging emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD), and high‑risk, complex presentations requiring multi‑agency working. Dr Kosari is particularly skilled in managing clinically complex cases and in engaging young people who may be difficult to engage, including those with significant risk, trauma histories, or previous negative experiences of services.

Dr Kosari also has extensive experience in conducting neurodiversity‑affirming assessments for adults with suspected autism, adopting a person‑centred approach that recognises the diversity of autistic presentations, particularly in adults who may have been previously overlooked or misdiagnosed.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Kosari is an experienced supervisor and trainer with a strong interest inneurodiversity‑affirming and trauma‑informed practice. She is an Honorary Lecturer for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and works as a guest lecturer, contributing to the teaching and development of medical students and trainees. She is committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and professional development.

Outside of work, Dr Kosari enjoys spending time with friends and family and travelling.
