What is Psychoanalytic Therapy?

Psychoanalytic Therapy is a longterm, talk therapy that focuses on bringing suppressed feelings to the conscious mind in order to examine the impact they have had on your behaviour. These repressed emotions often stem from childhood memories and therefore, this treatment takes time. Therapists use several specific techniques in Psychoanalytic Therapy, including: free association, encouraging the patient to speak freely with the goal of revisiting memories, and transference, analysing the redirection of a patient’s feelings towards one person onto the therapist. These techniques are used with the purpose of making deep-rooted changes to thought processes and behaviour.

What issues might Psychoanalytic Therapy be used for?

  • Depression
  • Personality Disorders
